Grassroots Motosports Ultimate Track Car/Green Car Challenge! At Buttonwillow California!

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Departure Atlanta June 5th 4am.

Nonstop to Buttonwillow. Ca 2371 miles 42 hours 11 minutes (ave. speed 56 mph)

Well, we are almost at Button Willow Racetrack for the Ultimate Track Car Challenge and the Ultimate Green Car Challenge!

We are exhausted and weary from driving since 4 a.m. on Thursday (you would think we would be used to this by now … sigh) but we are excited about practice tomorrow. We will also be picking up our slicks tomorrow afternoon and mounting them on Mojito … do you think she is thrilled with this mounting concept?

We shall see if she is on Sunday when she has to perform and out run some serious competition. But I am not worried … I know that Kevin will be awesome!

I love watching him drive Mojito!

(I wonder if he will let me drive this time seeing as I get much better time in the excursion than he does Smile :D Of course, when he is sleeping he does not like the fact that the gps shows that I might be going 93 mph with the trailer on … I think that it is malfunctioning)

Mojito in the Mojave

Saturday June 6th.

Morning practice went well Mojito still on street tires was bitting the ground and hooking up like velcro. We played with the angles on the wing and found more is better for this track.

This afternoon in the third session we came out on the front stretch dropped the hammer on her and she twitched like I hit a slick spot. At the end of the front stretch just under 140 mph, I stood on the brakes and she felt like she was wagging her tail… , the left rear tire was wobbling violently. I nearly lost control of the car. we crippled it off the track and once in the pits we found that we had jerked one of the inboard suspension pickups completely out of the frame.

Now the search begins to find someone to help us weld her back together.

We got lucky and found the Mad Genus of Havoc Motor sports…. Justin Edwards

http://www.havoc-motorsports.com/

This guy could weld peanut butter to grape jelly. He agreed to meet us at his shop around 7pm and help us out. (on a Saturday)

Grinding away …

Welding away…

Well it is 1:30 a.m. and we just finished repairing the car!

We have it all welded back together and all we have to do is complete a front end alignment and we are back in the race!

It’s is all fixed Smile :D Kevin is at the race shop getting the alignment completed … !

So once again we were very lucky.

Our first event is at 9:55 - practice run … then 3 more events after that to determine the Ultimate Track Car Challenge.
